We started as a small group of innovators, tasked with developing a rigorous certification system for Fairtrade International. Today, we’ve grown into a team of 120 enthusiastic experts in fair global trade, based in 6 offices on 4 continents, and over 100 highly qualified auditors, carefully selected and trained by FLOCERT to serve our customers around the world. Everyone at FLOCERT is respected as a leader in their own right. As individuals we take ownership of what we do, show initiative, and value our colleagues and all of our customers.

Meet our auditors

To become Fairtrade certified, an organisation must have an on-site audit. These audits are carried out by over one hundred highly qualified and trained auditors around the world. Auditor independence is a prerequisite for impartial certification and verification work. The topic of independence is regularly raised and discussed during auditor trainings (workshops, webinars, etc.) and our auditors are solely selected by FLOCERT.

The pioneer of the international certification scheme for Fairtrade and founder of FLOCERT in 2003. Previously, he run his own consultancy business and was a Fairtrade International product manager. Rüdiger contributes regularly to conferences on advancing Fairtrade and certification trends. He holds a Business, Law and Organizational Development degree and a Masters in Sociology.

Volker has more than 25 years of professional experience, 20 years of which he spent as either managing director or board member. He has held more than 20 positions in supervisory and advisory boards, of which ten as chairman. He has contributed as expert and project leader to several technical projects in the process and is currently Managing Director of VK IA GmbH.

Tom is an experienced board director with vast expertise in the food industry, built on a successful career in marketing at Unilever. Subsequently Tom held leadership roles (Castrol & BP; Affinity Sutton). He currently has a number of non-executive posts – including at Freedom Food – the certification body for the RSPCA’s animal welfare scheme. He is a board member at two UK housing associations and at the National Union of Students.

Bettina brings more than 20 years of experience in the financial services industry – as a Corporate Investment Banker amongst other management positions worldwide. Bettina has been self-employed since 2009, working as a business coach & consultant for a variety of companies. Her main focus is leadership and culture development as well as change management. Bettina holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration (University of Hagen, Germany).

Jane is a Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility specialist with experience in ethical certifications, environmental sustainability, responsible production and sourcing. She is currently Finlays’ Safety and Sustainability Manager. Jane brings over a decade of experience in establishing and maintaining management systems that ensure compliance with over ten ethical certification schemes. She holds a BSc in Natural Resources Management.

Merling is a Nicaraguan smallholder coffee producer and the CEO of PRODECOOP. She has held executive positions in many coffee initiatives and served in multiple supervisory boards like CAFENICA, CLAC, Fairtrade Foundation, OCIA Internacional and Fairtrade America. Her representation positions have mainly focused on establishing and defending smallholder producer interests and adding value to organisations and institutions, especially in Fairtrade.
