In our latest blog post, we’re pleased to introduce Mileidy Montoya, who shares her experiences as a Fairtrade auditor, the aspects of the role she enjoys most, and some memorable audit moments.
What makes auditing for FLOCERT special?
MM: The opportunity to see firsthand the value and impact of Fairtrade in people's lives and communities. Through audits, I have the chance to engage with producers, workers, and organisations, hear their stories, and understand how Fairtrade contributes to positive change. Seeing that impact directly is both meaningful and rewarding.
Which aspect(s) do you enjoy the most when you carry out a Fairtrade audit?
MM: What I enjoy most about Fairtrade auditing is the continuous learning it provides. Every audit is an opportunity to learn about different markets, production processes, cultures, and communities. I also enjoy discovering the innovative practices that organisations implement to meet Fairtrade requirements and create positive outcomes. The constant exchange of knowledge and experiences is what makes this work so enriching.
Do you have a favourite audit moment?
MM: Choosing one favourite audit moment is difficult, as every audit brings unique experiences. However, auditing in New York at the One World Trade Center was certainly a highlight. It was a memorable opportunity to work in such an iconic location, connect with our auditor in the United States, and learn more about organisations operating in the region.
