Where it began: Cocoa Life & FLOCERT’s independent verification
Cocoa Life is Mondelēz International's signature global cocoa sourcing programme dedicated to helping make cocoa farming more sustainable, helping improve the livelihoods of cocoa farmers and their communities, and also helping to protect forests.
Launched in 2012 by Mondelēz International, Cocoa Life’s integrated approach supports cocoa farming communities across eight cocoa-producing countries: Ghana, Côte d'Ivoire, Indonesia, India, Brazil, Nigeria, Cameroon and Ecuador. Cocoa Life collaborates with NGOs and supplier partners to support farmers with knowledge and skills to help enhance their livelihoods, help strengthen communities, help inspire future generations of farmers, and help protect and restore landscapes.
For external verification about the programme's progress, Mondelēz International collaborates with FLOCERT, which provides independent verification of Cocoa Life volumes and premium payments. FLOCERT supports transparency and accountability in the Cocoa Life supply chain by tracking cocoa volumes from cocoa farming communities and premium payments passed to farmer organisations. Verification helps drive learning and reporting transparency.

FLOCERT supports supply chain integrity and transparency through a combination of second-party verification, using its data dashboard, and third-party verification involving remote and onsite audits. Together, these methods uphold integrity and traceability across the supply chain.
Second-party producer and local buyer assessments
Trading partners—both producers and buyers—enter and cross-check data on traded volumes and premium payments in the FLOCERT data dashboard. This platform allows supply chain actors to verify financial flows, collaborate on reporting, and confirm transactions. By providing producers with a clear overview of payments and premiums, the dashboard strengthens their position in the supply chain.
Third-party remote or onsite audits: Independent verification
To complement dashboard data, FLOCERT conducts third-party sample audits, adding an extra layer of verification to confirm accuracy and compliance
